本展はポコの本社であるロンドンのギャラリーで2025年 7⽉に開催され、26年1 ⽉よりポコギャラリー東京での巡回展が実現しました。キム・ファンイは⽊炭を⽤いてドローイングとアニメーションを制作し、⾃⾝の「引 きこもり」をテーマに孤独や不安、そこから再び社会に向き合い、つながりを構築するまでの体験を表現しています。
“Hikikomori(引きこもり) ”は⽇本語から由来していますが、韓国のみならず世界各国で通じる ⾔葉であり世界中で⾒受けられます。引きこもりはやる気の⽋如と誤解されがちですが、実際にはトラウマや⼼理的苦痛と深く結びつく事象です。ファンイは⾃らの孤独を⾚裸々に描きつつも、少し開いた扉の先の柔らかな光へと導いてくれます。
引きこもりの経験はなくても、社会の中での孤独や不安は誰しもが感じ体験するものです。ファンイの強烈な孤独感とその先にある社会とのつながりを緩やかに丁寧に映し出す様は誰しも が共感するものではないでしょうか。この展⽰が⾃⾝の内⾯を振り返る機会となり誰かにとっての癒しとなればと思います。
Through charcoal animations, intimate drawings, and an interactive installation, Kim explores the emotional terrain of isolation, anxiety, and the quiet resilience it takes to reconnect. A central theme in Kim’s work is Hikikomori, a severe form of social withdrawal often misunderstood as a lack of motivation but deeply connected to trauma and psychological distress.
While most recognised in Japan, Hikikomori is also present in South Korea and around the world. At the centre of Ajar is a door, softly illuminated, symbolising the fragile space between solitude and connection. Kim’s characters, shaped by erased and redrawn lines, echo the lingering traces of strong emotions and the slow process of healing.
Even without having experienced Hikikomori firsthand, feelings of loneliness and anxiety within society are something everyone encounters at some point in their lives. The way Hwanyi gently and thoughtfully portrays her intense sense of isolation, and the subtle connections she forms with society beyond it is deeply relatable.
We hope this exhibition offers you an opportunity to reflect on their inner selves, and that it may become a source of comfort and healing.
アーティストについて：
韓国⼈アーティスト兼アニメーター。ロイヤル・カレッジ・オブ・アート（MAアニメーション）と東国⼤学校（BA 絵画）で学び、韓国と英国での⾃⾝の抑うつと孤⽴体験を作品に反映させている。
近年の個展に「Beyond the Door」（Space Kyeol、2025年）、グループ展に「ep. 01 Safety Space」（BeF Storage、2025 年）、「Lost & Found」（Bambu Collection、2025年）などがあ る。映像作品『EYES』は韓国国⽴現代美術館アートバンクに収蔵。
ファンイはユーモアとドローイング、重ね合わせたアニメーションを通じて、内向的な⼈々の 内⾯世界を明らかにし、共感と連帯を⽰しつつ、スティグマやケア、メンタルヘルスをめぐる 対話の空間を優しく開く。
About the Artist :
Hwanyi Kim is a Korean artist and animator; educated at the Royal College of Art (MA Animation) and Dongguk University (BA Painting),
Kim draws on her own experience of depression and isolation in Korea and the UK. Recent solo exhibitions include “Beyond the Door” (Space Kyeol, 2025) and group shows such as “ep. 01 Safety Space” (BeF Storage, 2025) and “Lost & Found” (Bambu Collection, 2025).
Her film EYES was recently acquired by the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. Through humour, drawing, and layered animation, Kim reveals the interior lives of the withdrawn, offering solidarity while gently opening space for dialogue around stigma, care, and mental health.
